This app emerged after Talavera, a 2017 graduate of Ernest J. King Middle High School in Japan, identified a gap in language practice among military students she tutored. Kigaru Talks offers a “safe, pressure-free” environment for learners to practice without the fear of making mistakes, as the name “Kigaru” means lightheartedness. The app follows levels based on the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test, providing personalized feedback through flashcards after conversations. Privacy is paramount; user data is used solely for personal analysis. Available for free on the App Store and Google Play, Kigaru Talks also offers a premium subscription at $14.99 monthly or $89 annually. This platform is designed to be scalable and accessible, aiming to help learners overcome their speaking challenges in a supportive setting.
