Does IFT’s Launch of an AI Tool for Food Scientists Signal the Future Direction of Trade Associations in the Age of AI?

Share

At IFT First in Chicago, the food scientist expo, a significant announcement emerged: the introduction of CoDeveloper, an innovative AI platform tailored specifically for food scientists. Developed by food scientists, CoDeveloper offers AI-powered tools designed to facilitate product formulation, reverse-engineering existing products, and leveraging extensive peer-reviewed food science research. This groundbreaking platform, dubbed “Sous,” aims to integrate with R&D teams to enhance early-stage product development.

This launch marks a pivotal moment for trade associations, potentially signaling a shift toward AI-driven support within industries. Traditionally, trade associations have focused on education, standards development, and promotion; now, as AI becomes increasingly vital, it’s logical for organizations like IFT to adapt and innovate.

While various startups and major brands are exploring AI in food development, the question remains whether this accessible AI tool will appeal to competitive consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies. Nonetheless, it promises to be a valuable resource for the IFT community.
