In June of last year, Google enhanced its Workspace apps with Gemini AI features through a dedicated side panel. This suite includes automatic email summaries in Gmail, document summarization for Google Docs on Android, and image generation in Sheets. Notably, Google Drive now offers contextual prompts to encourage Gemini’s use, such as file summaries and natural language interactions. Recently, a ‘Catch me up’ feature was introduced, summarizing changes in shared documents. Google is taking it further by automating PDF summarization; now, users will receive instant summaries upon opening a PDF, alongside actionable options like drafting proposals or summarizing key points. This feature is rolling out in over 25 languages and will default to a file previewer for PDFs. It will be available to specific Workspace plans, enhancing efficiency in document management and reducing steps for users.
