In a bid to uphold electoral integrity, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued warnings against the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to create misleading content during the Bihar Assembly polls and upcoming bypolls. Emphasizing adherence to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), the ECI has instructed political parties to limit criticism to policies and verified records, avoiding personal attacks and unverified allegations. Political entities must clearly label AI-generated content on social media as “AI-Generated” or “Synthetic Content.” Monitoring of social media posts is intensified to prevent misinformation. The ECI has deployed over 8.5 lakh officials and instituted a robust observer system to address concerns directly in constituencies. Additionally, pre-certification of political advertisements is mandated for the day before and on polling day to avoid misleading content. The ECI reiterates that any violations of MCC guidelines will face strict repercussions, ensuring a fair electoral process.
