Elon Musk Claims Apple Prioritizes OpenAI in App Store Rankings Over xAI

Elon Musk has alleged that Apple is engaging in an “unequivocal antitrust violation” by favoring OpenAI in App Store rankings. In a recent post on X, he asserted that Apple’s bias prevents other AI companies, like xAI, from achieving top rankings and threatened “immediate legal action.” Musk’s comments come amid a pinned post questioning Apple about its refusal to feature his app, X, and the Grok app in its “Must Have” section, despite their high rankings. Meanwhile, OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, responded to Musk’s accusations, suggesting they were remarkable given Musk’s history of allegedly using X to benefit his own interests. Notably, the Chinese AI chatbot DeepSeek recently topped the App Store, showing the competitive landscape. Additionally, Apple has a partnership with OpenAI, integrating ChatGPT into its platforms and leveraging GPT-5 for future iOS and macOS releases, enhancing Apple’s AI capabilities.
