Elon Musk Pledges to Donate Any Legal Victory Against OpenAI to Charity

Elon Musk announced on X that any proceeds from his legal battle against OpenAI will be donated to charity, asserting that he will not profit from the situation. His lawsuit, set to begin in April, claims OpenAI, which he co-founded in 2015, has deviated from its core mission of benefiting humanity by transitioning to a for-profit model in partnership with Microsoft. Musk contends he invested over $40 million, expecting adherence to non-profit principles. Ahead of the trial, both Musk and OpenAI have shared conflicting internal documents to support their claims. Musk alleges that OpenAI leaders misled stakeholders about the shift to a profit-oriented structure, while OpenAI maintains Musk’s narrative is misleading. His suit demands OpenAI make key technologies more accessible and seeks to classify AI models like GPT-4 as forms of artificial general intelligence, challenging Microsoft’s licensing rights. OpenAI has rebutted Musk’s characterizations, asserting many claims are inaccurate.
