Employability Soars to 56.35% Amidst AI Advancements, Gig Economy Growth, and Enhanced Digital Fluency

The India Skills Report 2026 highlights India’s workforce evolution, showcasing a notable rise in national employability, from 54.81% last year to 56.35% this year. The report reveals that over 90% of Indian employees are now using generative AI tools, emphasizing the nation’s shift toward a skill-first economy. Conducted by ETS in collaboration with CII, AICTE, and others, it reflects insights from over 100,000 candidates. The gig economy is booming, with projections indicating a freelance workforce of 23.5 million by 2030. Key sectors driving employment include technology, manufacturing, and healthcare, with AI, data analytics, and cybersecurity as the top in-demand skills. Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka exhibit the highest employability rates. This edition’s theme, “The Future of Work,” illustrates how digital transformation is reshaping employability standards. As Nirmal Singh, CEO of Wheebox ETS, notes, this transformation will solidify India’s position in global talent mobility through AI-centric skills and certifications.
