Unity Health Toronto’s Data Science and Advanced Analytics (DSAA) team has launched the Health AI Academy, an initiative aimed at enhancing AI literacy among healthcare professionals nationwide. Developed in collaboration with KPMG and Signal 1, this program addresses a critical gap in AI training, positioning Canada to better leverage AI in healthcare. The Academy, which successfully graduated its first cohort, includes a two-part course featuring virtual sessions on AI foundations and an in-person fellowship for advanced training. Participants, like Ron Johnson from Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services, believe the Academy will catalyze AI adoption across the country. The program aims to build national capacity, fostering a community of over 200 professionals dedicated to responsible AI implementation in health. Unity Health leads in applied healthcare AI, showcasing tools like CHARTWatch and Autoscribe, which significantly enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
