Empowering Employee AI Adoption Through Managerial Support

Artificial intelligence (AI) discussions have surged in earnings calls, yet only 5% of organizations report measurable ROI from generative AI, per a 2025 MIT NANDA study. Gallup research highlights that, despite increased AI technology availability, access does not equate to adoption or investment returns. Key barriers to AI adoption include unclear use cases (16%), legal concerns (15%), and lack of training (11%), with many employees doubting AI’s relevance to their work. Managers play a critical role in facilitating AI adoption by communicating strategies, championing its use, providing role-specific training, and establishing responsible usage guidelines. Gallup found that employees with supportive managers are significantly more likely to adopt and find value in AI tools. To turn AI access into tangible results, organizations must ensure employees understand its application and relevance within their roles. Thus, effective leadership strategies that connect AI to employee needs are crucial for successful adoption.
