Empowering Migrant Workers and Local Businesses with AI Tools from Sea-Lion

Southeast Asia’s pioneering AI model, Sea-Lion, is transforming real-world applications by aiding migrant workers in Thailand and helping businesses navigate local dialects. Unveiled at the inaugural Sea-Lion Summit by AI Singapore (AISG), this open-source model bridges gaps left by Western-centric AI, supporting over one trillion tokens across 13 regional languages. Collaboration with Alibaba Cloud has led to Qwen-Sea-Lion-v4, operable on consumer-grade laptops, catering to small enterprises. The Aquarium open data platform, developed with Google, enables a diverse range of users to contribute to language datasets. Notably, initiatives like UN Women’s Talking Justice use Sea-Lion to empower migrant workers to file grievances in their native languages. Additionally, companies like Good Bards are leveraging Sea-Lion for localized marketing. The summit featured the Pan-Southeast Asia AI Developer Challenge, which showcased innovative solutions to regional challenges, underscoring the community’s potential to harness this AI technology effectively.
