C.H. Robinson has launched an AI agent designed to automate freight classification as the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) system undergoes significant changes starting July 19. The NMFC assists shippers and carriers in determining delivery rates for less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments, which often involve sharing truck space. With many stakeholders unprepared for these changes, the AI agent addresses common issues of misclassified freight, which can lead to delays and increased charges. The technology determines the correct freight class and code quickly, reducing the classification time from over 10 minutes to merely a few seconds per shipment. Currently processing around 2,000 orders daily, the AI agent has saved over 300 hours of manual labor, enabling faster deliveries and allowing staff to focus on higher-level customer service. C.H. Robinson anticipates that this automation will enhance efficiency in the evolving LTL landscape.
