Enlightra Secures $15M to Innovate Laser Connectivity for Data Centers and AI Applications

Enlightra, a Swiss-American startup founded in 2022, focuses on developing chip-scale multi-wavelength lasers to revolutionize data transmission for AI infrastructure. The company recently secured $15 million in funding to advance its technology, which aims to overcome limitations of copper wiring in data centers. By offering ultra-high bandwidth optical links, Enlightra’s innovations promise faster and energy-efficient connections for GPUs and TPUs, meeting the growing demands of AI clusters. The market for energy-efficient interconnects is forecasted to reach $24 billion by 2030, highlighting the importance of their technology. Built using silicon photonics, these lasers can be mass-produced, enabling millions of units annually for global deployment. Key investors include Y Combinator and Runa Capital. Co-founders John Jost and Maxim Karpov leverage extensive experience in quantum computing and optical technologies to position Enlightra as a crucial player in the optical revolution of high-performance computing.
