PCWorld reports that Google’s Gemini may soon implement conversation branching, a feature currently exclusive to ChatGPT. This functionality allows users to explore various conversational paths without losing the original thread, enhancing flexibility and engagement. Android Authority has identified code snippets indicating that Gemini could soon support this innovative feature, although it is not yet active. In contrast, Claude still lacks any form of branching in its standard chat interface.
Conversation branching is significant as it enables users to create a new chat branch from any point in the conversation, facilitating experimentation with different dialogue outcomes while preserving the original chat. Users of ChatGPT can easily initiate branching, which allows for a seamless transition to a different discussion line without cluttering the existing dialogue. Currently, both Claude and Gemini do not offer this capability, though some functions in Claude’s Code version allow for similar actions.
