Experts Advocate for Enhanced Diagnostics and AI Solutions to Optimize Industrial Asset Life Assessment

During a recent national symposium titled ‘Remaining Life Assessment of Engineering Components (RLA-2026)’ at CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) in Jamshedpur, experts emphasized the urgent need for advanced diagnostic tools and predictive modeling to enhance the safety and reliability of industrial assets. Key discussions revolved around life assessment methodologies, including creep and stress rupture analysis, corrosion management, and risk-based inspections. Participants advocated for integrating Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) and AI-driven data approaches for precise life predictions. Additionally, speakers highlighted the importance of robust collaboration among research institutions, academia, and industry to tackle emerging engineering challenges. They noted that RLA investigations are typically conducted every five to six years, with significant risks associated with delayed inspections. Automation in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) has improved data efficiency, but quality remains paramount. Overall, enhancing data integrity is crucial for effective life extension and decision-making in engineering components.
