Experts Discuss the Dual Nature of AI: Beneficial Tool or Risky Replacement in Educational Assessments

As educational enthusiasm for AI grows, concerns about its role in student assessment come to the forefront. High schools in Kuwait are integrating artificial intelligence into test preparation and grading to create more dynamic, personalized learning experiences. However, experts like Dr. Khaled Al-Rasheed and Dr. Qusay Al-Shatti caution against relying on AI as an independent “examiner,” emphasizing the risks of inaccurate evaluations and the essential human element in grading, especially for subjective tasks like essays. The Ministry of Education acknowledges that AI’s integration is still in early stages, lacking the necessary curriculum support. Additionally, AI’s potential contradictions due to its reliance on stored data highlight the need for ethical guidelines and legislation, similar to those enacted by the European Union. While AI can assist in educational tasks, careful regulation and human oversight are crucial for its effective implementation in student assessments.
