Midjourney has launched its V1 Video Model, a groundbreaking generative image AI platform that allows users to create animated videos for $10/month. This release positions Midjourney competitively against AI video tools like OpenAI’s Sora and Google’s Flow, which are priced higher. Users can easily animate images by pressing “Animate,” with options for low or high motion. Each video job produces four five-second clips, although Midjourney’s video pricing is still eight times higher than images. Founder David Holz envisions V1 as a stepping stone toward real-time open-world simulations. However, concerns around misinformation and copyright issues have surfaced, especially amid a lawsuit from Disney and Universal alleging unauthorized use of copyrighted materials. As AI-generated content becomes increasingly sophisticated, Holz emphasizes the importance of responsible usage.
