Exploring Private 5G Innovations on the Farm

Swan Trails Farm in Washington state has made a significant technological leap by deploying a private 5G network, utilizing Moso 5G radios and a Druid 5G standalone (SA) core. This initiative aims to enhance farm operations and improve the experience for agro-tourists during the harvest season. The network, covering 80 acres and leveraging the CBRS 3.5 GHz band with Starlink backhaul, aids in seamless transactions and crop monitoring. Scott Waller, CTO of Khasm Labs, highlights how this upgraded infrastructure has replaced outdated 4G LTE systems, boosting efficiency and reducing operational clutter. As per SNS Telecom & IT, private networks in agriculture are projected to generate $700 million between 2025 and 2028, indicating substantial growth potential for non-incumbent vendors. This deployment positions Swan Trails as a flagship project, reflecting the rising trend of private 5G networks transforming agricultural practices for improved productivity and tourism engagement.
