Exploring the Potential of ChatGPT in Calorie-Count Diet Planning: A Pilot Study

Share

Recent advances in artificial intelligence have led to increased interest in utilizing AI for nutrition guidance. However, there is a lack of comprehensive research in this area. This study assessed the accuracy of ChatGPT (version 3.5) in generating meal and diet plans within prescribed calorie limits—1500, 2000, and 2500 calories—alongside recipes for 300, 500, and 700 calories. By comparing caloric content against established nutrition databases, findings revealed only one significant difference in the 500-calorie recipe group, while other prompts showed no notable discrepancies. Additionally, ChatGPT’s 2500-calorie diet plan aligned closely with actual values. These results indicate that while ChatGPT effectively creates calorie-specific recipes, its meal planning requires further evaluation. Future research is essential for understanding ChatGPT’s reliability in nutritional science and the practicality of its suggested recipes, highlighting its potential as a nutrition recommendation tool.
