Farewell, Microsoft Lens: A Beloved App Making Way for AI Innovations

Microsoft Lens, a popular mobile document scanner, is set to be discontinued starting September 15, 2025. Originally launched in 2015 as Office Lens, it allowed users to scan paper documents, receipts, business cards, and more, converting them into digital formats like PDF and Word without the burden of subscription fees. The app’s simple interface offered various filters for enhancing images and saved files seamlessly to Microsoft apps or online services. Despite its effectiveness, Microsoft is redirecting users to the Copilot AI chat app, which lacks many of Lens’ features, such as direct document saving to OneNote and accessibility options. Users will still be able to access previous scans until December 15, 2025. With over 92.3 million downloads since its inception, Microsoft Lens has maintained a loyal user base, amassing 322,000 downloads in just the last month. Further details on the shutdown have yet to be clarified by Microsoft.
