Figma Enhances Accessibility of Design Tools for AI Agents

Figma has announced exciting updates, enhancing its app-building tool with AI integration via the Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. This innovative server acts as a bridge, allowing AI models to access the underlying code of designs created using Figma’s tools, particularly with the new Figma Make app. According to Figma’s technology chief, Kris Rasmussen, the MCP server enables AI models to view the code directly from Make files, facilitating accurate app recreation rather than relying on visual cues. Starting now, the MCP server supports platforms like Anthropic, Cursor, Windsurf, and VS Code, with plans for third-party connectivity in future updates. This advancement grants developers remote access to Figma, breaking the previous dependency on local desktop environments. Additional features on the horizon include a Design Snapshot capability turning Make snapshots into editable layers and AI-driven editing options for seamless design manipulation. These updates mark a significant evolution in Figma’s toolset for developers.
