Figma MCP is expanding from a desktop-only platform to include IDEs, AI agents, and browser-based models, enhancing connectivity with projects and codebases. The recent upgrades optimize Figma’s AI agents, allowing them broader context for improved functionality. Following the local MCP server launch in 2025, remote access is now available, facilitating connections to IDEs and AI coding tools through a new partner catalog. The Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open-source standard, bridges users’ projects with their underlying code, being supported by platforms like Anthropic and VS Code. Additionally, Figma will review all third-party integrations for security before accessing user data, while REST API rate limits are set to change, affecting less than 1% of users. The changes enhance in-app mapping and share key design contexts, including code component locations. These features are in beta, reinforcing Figma’s commitment to seamless workflow integration and user experience.
