Former Instacart Leader Joins AI Innovator as New CEO

admin

Fidji Simo, the former CEO of Instacart, has been appointed by OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman to lead the Applications Division. This strategic move allows Altman to concentrate on research and the company’s long-term strategy. Simo, 39, is a seasoned veteran in Silicon Valley, with a career spanning from an eBay intern to significant roles at Meta and, most recently, Instacart, where she managed the company’s post-COVID recovery and prepared for its IPO. She joined OpenAI’s board in March 2022 and aided in a major $40 billion fundraising round led by SoftBank. Leaving Instacart amicably, Simo identified her successor while also building her reputation as a turnaround expert. As OpenAI’s Applications Division head, she will oversee key executives and face the challenge of guiding the rapidly growing, but financially struggling, company towards profitability and its potential public offering.
