Former OpenAI Researcher Joins Meta, Clarifies No $100 Million Payout Received

Beyer confirmed their move but refuted reports claiming they received a $100 million sign-on bonus, labeling it “fake news.” The trio is joining Meta’s new “superintelligence” team, focused on developing Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, criticized Meta’s hiring strategy, alleging they were making overwhelming compensation offers due to their lack of innovation. Meta has dismissed Altman’s comments, with its CTO suggesting he exaggerates to mask Meta’s successful talent recruitment. The company’s investments in AI are substantial, including a $14.3 billion acquisition of a stake in Scale AI, and they have also brought on Alexandr Wang, the founder of Scale AI, to enhance their capabilities in the field.
