Former Thinking Machines Lab Employee Returns to OpenAI Amid Industry Talent Shift

Thinking Machines Lab is experiencing a wave of employee turnover, with Jolene Parish being the latest to leave, returning to OpenAI. This move follows high-profile poaching campaigns from larger tech companies targeting talent at the $12 billion AI startup, helmed by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati. Parish had joined Thinking Machines in April 2022 after a three-year tenure at OpenAI and a decade in security at Apple. Last month, other notable figures, including co-founders Barret Zoph and Luke Metz, and researcher Sam Schoenholz, also rejoined OpenAI. Additionally, co-founder Andrew Tulloch departed for Meta late last year. Despite the turnover, Thinking Machines Lab raised $2 billion last year, valuing the firm at $12 billion and launching its first product, Tinker. The San Francisco-based startup continues to attract top talent, including renowned coder Neal Wu and CTO Soumith Chintala, the creator of PyTorch.
