Forrester Data Reveals Stagnation in Worker AI Readiness Amid Tool Rollouts

A recent Forrester report reveals stagnant employee proficiency in artificial intelligence (AI), termed AIQ, undermining productivity despite increased investment in AI technologies. J.P. Gownder, Forrester’s VP and Principal Analyst, emphasizes that employers fail to equip staff with the necessary skills and ethical understanding to thrive in an AI-driven landscape. The percentage of workers proficient in prompt engineering rose only marginally, from 22% in 2024 to 26% in 2025, affecting organizations’ productivity goals. Employees with low AIQ often misuse AI tools or abandon them, leading to inefficiencies. Moreover, a disconnect exists between AI tool deployment and the required training, as only half of organizations provide necessary AI education for non-technical staff. This oversight, coupled with widespread employee fears regarding job security exacerbated by corporate statements, indicates that future workforce success hinges on fostering human skills rather than merely deploying sophisticated technology. Investing in AIQ could define the future of work.
