French Survey Reveals Publisher Staff’s Generally Positive Attitude Towards AI Tools

A recent survey by the French Publishers Association (Syndicat National de l’Edition, SNE) reveals that artificial intelligence (AI) is now integral to the operations of French publishers. Conducted from September 24 to November 23, the survey garnered 257 responses, highlighting a trend toward defining protocols for AI use, particularly with popular office software like Adobe and Microsoft. During a conference in Paris, Florent Souillot, SNE’s digital commission head, presented the findings, which indicated that while editorial teams utilize AI minimally, commercial departments leverage it significantly for tasks like accounts and distribution. Respondents cited time-saving and information retrieval as the primary benefits of AI, with creative assistance being a third priority. Notably, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and educational materials reported the highest AI integration. Nearly 40% of participants stated their employers provided AI solutions, with a third aware of measures against content-scraping, underscoring the industry’s cautious embrace of AI.
