Gemini AI App Gains Access to Third-Party Data on Android: Here’s How to Opt Out

Share

Google has rolled out a privacy-centric update for the Gemini AI app on Android, allowing it to access data from third-party apps. While this raises significant privacy concerns, users have the option to disable this feature. The update, which went live on July 7, has been communicated to users via email.

To safeguard your privacy, follow these steps to disable Gemini Apps Activity: First, open the Gemini app and tap your profile icon in the top-right corner. Select “Gemini Apps Activity” from the menu, and turn off the feature using the drop-down menu. Next, go to the “Apps” tab, find the toggle switch for third-party apps, and disable it.

This ensures that Gemini AI can’t access data from your installed apps. iOS users can similarly disable Gemini App Activity, though third-party app support may be limited. For those preferring not to use Gemini, switching to Google Assistant is an available option.
