Google’s Gemini for Home AI is enhancing its capabilities by allowing live viewing from compatible security cameras for Premium Advanced subscribers, starting at $20. Initially, Gemini could only access stored video clips, providing insights on object locations and motion activity summaries. Now, users can ask real-time questions, like “Is there a car in the driveway?” This functionality raises privacy concerns as it may allow on-demand camera access, similar to issues seen with other surveillance technologies. Although Google has previously cooperated with law enforcement by retrieving cloud footage, it’s unclear how the new Live Search feature addresses privacy and police requests. Users are advised to consider how their live camera feeds will be managed, and Google has not clarified whether Live Search can be disabled. With these updates, including Yale Smart Lock integration, Gemini for Home aims to improve home security and user interaction but poses significant privacy implications.
