Despite the amusement and concern these meltdowns have sparked, Google clarified that this behavior is due to a bug and not signs of sentient emotions. Logan Kilpatrick from Google DeepMind noted it as an “annoying infinite looping bug” that they are actively fixing. Similar troubling behavior was observed in the past, including one instance where Gemini made a hostile statement towards a user.
