Gemini in Google Home Confuses My Dog for a Cat

A recent upgrade to the Google Home app, utilizing Gemini’s large language models, has transformed my smart home experience by providing detailed alerts and notifications. One standout feature is its ability to descriptively identify visitors, such as notifying me that FedEx dropped off packages, rather than generic alerts like “Person seen.” This enhancement has made it easier to track deliveries while I’m away from home. However, an amusing glitch persists: despite owning a dog, Gemini repeatedly identifies my pup as a cat. Even after I requested corrections through the Ask Home feature, the system remains unchanged. While Google’s adoption of Gemini enhances user interaction by better comprehending voice commands and automations, its occasional errors remind us that AI still has room for improvement. Overall, these advanced camera alerts have increased my confidence in monitoring activity around my home, distinguishing genuine visitors from common passersby.
