Gemini Launches Rollout for Android Auto Users

Google has begun rolling out its new AI assistant, Gemini, for Android Auto, starting with beta testers. This upgrade follows CEO Sundar Pichai’s announcement in April that Gemini would replace Google Assistant in vehicles later this year. Early users on Android Auto versions 15.6 and 15.7 have reported seeing the Gemini update. While the rollout appears primarily for beta users, it’s unclear how the versions relate to the overall upgrade.

In collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, Google demonstrated Gemini’s capabilities, showcasing its natural language processing and context retention. However, some users have noted a limitation: Gemini struggles with understanding nicknames for contacts. A new settings section for Gemini will be available, allowing users to manage features like “Interrupt Live responses” and “Share precise location,” with defaults already set. This rollout signals an exciting advancement in in-car AI technology for Android Auto users. Share your experiences with Gemini in the comments!
