Previously peaking at No. 3 on the U.S. App Store, Gemini claimed the No. 1 position on September 12, overtaking OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Currently, Gemini ranks among the top five iPhone apps in 108 countries and has climbed to No. 2 on Google Play. This surge in popularity has led to significant consumer spending, with $6.3 million generated in 2023, of which $1.6 million was earned in August alone. The app has amassed 103.7 million downloads this year and 185.4 million since its Android launch in February 2024, driven by increased user engagement and innovative features.
