Google’s Gemini app is undergoing a significant update to enhance personalization, flexibility, and user control over data. Key features include a “Personal context” setting, which allows the app to remember details from past conversations, providing tailored suggestions based on user preferences. This is particularly useful for personalized recommendations, like suggesting birthday ideas related to favorite comic book characters or book titles based on previous inquiries.
Additionally, the new “Temporary Chat” feature enables users to engage in one-off conversations that remain unrecorded for privacy, retained for up to 72 hours for processing feedback. Users also gain improved data management options, as the “Gemini Apps Activity” setting has been renamed to “Keep Activity,” allowing control over whether uploads contribute to service improvement. These updates position Gemini competitively alongside AI counterparts like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot, making it a versatile assistant that balances personalization with user privacy.
