Android users can now leverage Gemini to identify songs by playing, singing, or humming. This long-requested feature enhances its daily usability but has some drawbacks. When users inquire about a song, Gemini redirects them to a Google Search page instead of providing answers directly in the chat, disrupting the conversational flow. Although iOS users currently lack access, a broader rollout may be forthcoming.
Gemini’s music recognition capabilities have been updated, allowing it to listen for songs from various sources, including playlists and humming. However, the transition to song identification isn’t entirely smooth—it utilizes a separate full-screen mode via the Google app, making it less seamless compared to features like Pixel’s Now Playing, which offers instant offline results. Overall, while Gemini has improved with song identification, it still lacks the fluid integration found in Google Assistant, leaving room for enhancement in user experience.
