In the first half of 2025, generative AI (GenAI) apps surged, amassing 1.7 billion downloads and $1.87 billion in revenue, a significant rise from prior periods, as reported by Sensor Tower. Users engaged with these apps for over 15.6 billion hours across 426 billion sessions. Asia led this growth, accounting for 42.6% of downloads, particularly in India and Mainland China, with an 80% increase in H1 2025. Despite Latin America’s rapid in-app purchase growth, North America retained the highest market share at 40%. ChatGPT emerged as the top app for in-app revenue, demonstrating high engagement levels similar to major platforms like Google, though it lags slightly behind in overall user access on web and mobile. Notably, the term “AI” is now prevalent in over 100,000 app descriptions, with apps using “AI” seeing a temporary boost in downloads. This reflects the growing integration of AI in various app categories, such as health, finances, and lifestyle.
