GitHub to Leverage Copilot Interactions for AI Training

GitHub Copilot, initially controversial for using existing GitHub code, is updating its usage policy effective April 24, 2026. The Microsoft-owned platform will utilize interaction data from Copilot Free, Pro, and Pro+ users to enhance AI models unless users opt out. This data includes inputs, outputs, code snippets, context, comments, and user interactions, but excludes Copilot Business and Enterprise users. While this move aligns with industry norms and aims to improve AI, users should be cautious as data may also be shared with affiliates like Microsoft. To opt out, users can adjust their settings under Privacy in GitHub. For those not using Copilot, opting out is still an option. This policy underscores the dependency of AI on human-generated data, highlighting the collaborative nature of AI development. For more discussions, join our Reddit community at r/WindowsCentral.
