GM Sets Ambitious Goals: Eyes-Off Driving by 2028 and Gemini AI Launch in 2026

The 2028 Cadillac Escalade IQ is set to introduce groundbreaking hands-off, eyes-off automated driving, leveraging advanced AI and technology from General Motors (GM). The rollout will begin in 2026 with Google’s Gemini AI integrated into GM’s Android Automotive system, enhancing voice recognition for vehicle controls. This new driver assistance system falls under SAE Level 3 automation, allowing drivers to engage in other activities while the vehicle manages driving tasks under specific conditions. GM, which has a storied history with automated systems, will shift to Nvidia’s compute platform for improved performance and ease of software updates. Expanding beyond highways, GM aims to develop Level 4 autonomy in the future. Additionally, GM is enhancing its robotics capabilities with collaborative robots (cobots) and expanding its Energy unit with innovative vehicle-to-home solutions. This positions GM at the forefront of EV technology and smart home integration, enhancing convenience for electric vehicle owners.
