Google is refining the Remix feature in Google Messages following user feedback. The controversial banana emoji, representing Nano Banana—Google’s advanced image-generation model—is being replaced. Users had critiqued the visual overload of the Remix feature since its November launch, prompting complaints about its functionality on platforms like Reddit. In response, Google announced changes in version 20251212_00_RC01 of the Google Messages beta, moving to a cleaner design. The new Remix button will be circular, denoting AI features with a sparkle emoji instead of the old, more complex pill-shaped button. Although the Remix feature remains opt-in, users are still unable to fully disable it, leaving some concerns unaddressed. Google’s community manager acknowledged the feedback and reassured improvements are underway for a more user-friendly experience. Stay updated for further enhancements as Google continues to evolve the Google Messages app for better usability.
