Google has launched a significant update to Chrome, its most extensive since 2008, featuring Gemini AI integration, an AI-enhanced omnibox, and enhanced safety measures. Gemini AI offers contextual support across tabs, allowing users to summarize articles, extract references from YouTube, and compile travel itineraries from multiple tabs. The upgraded Omnibox supports conversational queries, enabling users to ask context-sensitive questions about current pages. Gemini is set to manage complex tasks such as booking appointments and grocery orders while ensuring user control over actions. Safety enhancements include Gemini Nano, which strengthens Chrome’s Enhanced Safe Browsing by identifying scams and fraudulent activities, alongside AI tools that reduce spam notifications by approximately 3 billion daily on Android. Currently, the update is rolling out to desktop users in the U.S. (English), with Android functionality available, and iOS support on the way. The enterprise rollout is also accessible via Google Workspace, ensuring robust security.
