Google Cloud has unveiled its “Gemini everywhere” initiative in Singapore, launching powerful generative AI models on-premises and ensuring data residency for its cloud services. This allows organizations with strict data sovereignty requirements to run Gemini models in their own data centers via Google Distributed Cloud (GDC), a fully managed, air-gapped environment. Key government agencies, including GovTech and the Cyber Security Agency, will be among the first to leverage this technology, emphasizing the importance of keeping sensitive data within Singapore. Furthermore, Google Cloud has expanded data residency guarantees for its Singapore public cloud, enabling organizations to conduct machine learning processes locally. In the financial sector, DBS Bank forecasts over S$1 billion in economic value from its AI initiatives, while FairPrice Group uses AI agents to enhance shopping experiences. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian highlighted Singapore’s role as a regional AI innovation hub. This strategic move fosters innovation across various sectors in Singapore.
