Google Drive Introduces AI Audio Summaries for PDFs
Google has enhanced its Drive service by integrating an AI-based feature that converts lengthy PDF documents into concise audio summaries, utilizing the Gemini AI model. This innovative “Audio Overview” feature allows users to listen to summaries within 2 to 10 minutes, fostering improved efficiency and reducing screen dependence. When accessing a PDF in the web version of Google Drive, users will find an “Audio Overview” button that initiates the summarization process. The resulting audio summary will be stored in a designated “Audio Overviews” folder, with notifications sent via email when ready. Currently, this feature is limited to English and available for select Google Workspace and Google One users, with a gradual rollout expected over 15 days. This development highlights Google’s commitment to integrating AI across its ecosystem, building on previous enhancements in Google Meet and Chat. With these advancements, Google solidifies its role in creating a fully connected, AI-driven productivity platform.
