Google Drive has enhanced its Gemini integration, now enabling it to analyze images, alongside its previous capabilities with text and videos. This new update, announced on the Workspace Updates blog, allows users to extract text, summarize images, and even generate alt text or creative stories based on photos. For instance, you can upload a photo of a receipt, and Gemini will seamlessly pull key information into a table, revolutionizing expense management. To use this feature, simply double-click an image within Google Drive, then click the “Ask Gemini” button. Currently, this feature supports English and works best with text-rich images like contracts. It’s gradually rolling out, starting August 25 for Rapid Release users and September 9 for others. This upgrade is accessible to most Workspace subscribers, Google One AI Premium members, and those with the Gemini for Education add-on, solidifying Google Drive as an intelligent hub for managing files.
