Google Elevates Gemini AI’s Image Features to Compete with ChatGPT

Google has upgraded its Gemini AI model with the release of Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, enhancing image generation and editing features. This move directly competes with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, focusing on delivering high-quality, accurate images while maintaining character consistency. Users can now manipulate visuals using natural language commands, making it easier to adjust poses and lighting, all while ensuring face and environment integrity. Developers can access this updated tool via Google’s AI Studio and third-party platforms such as OpenRouter. Priced at $30 per million output tokens, Gemini outputs will include an invisible SynthID watermark to combat misuse. Despite OpenAI’s dominance, with 700 million weekly users, Google reportedly had 400 million monthly active users as of August 2025. This strategic release aligns with growing industry trends towards multimodal AI, aiming to meet user expectations for integrated tools while addressing challenges related to transparency and authenticity in AI-generated content.
