Google has introduced an AI-powered tool called Flight Deals within Google Flights, aimed at assisting flexible travelers in finding affordable flights. By enabling natural language queries like “week-long trip this winter” or “10-day ski trip,” users can easily discover suitable options. The tool employs a customized version of Gemini 2.5 and gathers real-time pricing data from airlines. Results are ranked based on savings percentage, with lesser prices prioritized for equal percentages. Currently in beta, Flight Deals will roll out in the U.S., Canada, and India, as Google seeks feedback to refine the tool. This development comes amid regulatory scrutiny regarding Google’s dominance in travel search and potential bias against competitors. While Google competes against AI-driven services from platforms like Booking.com and Expedia, it aims to enhance user experience without replacing the traditional Google Flights interface. The classic flight search is also set for an update to exclude basic economy fares for users in North America.
