Google’s visual search tools, including Circle to Search (CtS), Google Lens, and Gemini, often overlap in functionality, causing user confusion. CtS can perform all tasks that Google Lens offers, while Gemini’s screen share matches CtS, and Gemini Live’s camera mode aligns with Lens. Recently, it seems Google is working to merge functionalities further by integrating CtS gestures into Gemini’s ‘Ask about screen’ feature.
Currently, the Gemini overlay allows users to take screen captures and search based on queries, but the process can be cumbersome. Users often prefer CtS for its simplicity in circling specific elements. A new update hints at a floating ‘Tell me about this’ button, enabling users to circle elements directly for queries, streamlining the search process. Although this is aimed at enhancing user experience, it risks further complicating the distinctions between Google’s visual search tools. The development is ongoing, with no set release date yet.
