In July, Google introduced Gemini to Wear OS watches, replacing the legacy Google Assistant with its AI chatbot. This significant upgrade enhances the Android smartwatch experience, allowing users to perform tasks like setting reminders and controlling smart home devices seamlessly. Gemini retains the same capabilities as on Android, executing complex queries effectively, such as providing comprehensive answers about landmarks without requiring precise wording.
While there are minor compatibility issues with certain systems like Vivint, Gemini works well with popular devices like Philips Hue and Nest. Users can also rate responses, helping refine the AI’s performance. Unlike the previous setup, where Wear OS devices used Google Assistant, Gemini ensures a consistent experience across platforms—responding to “Hey Google” queries similarly to Android phones. Although Gemini Live conversing is unavailable on Wear OS, it still supports contextual follow-up queries, making for a more cohesive assistant experience. This update marks a crucial step in enhancing user interaction across Google’s ecosystem.
