Google Gemini Launches ChatGPT-Inspired Memory Feature to Retain Past Conversations

On Wednesday, Google introduced enhanced personalization features for the Gemini app, including ChatGPT-like memory capabilities and a Temporary Chat option that keeps conversations private. The memory feature, dubbed “personal context,” allows the AI to retain key details and user preferences from previous interactions, leading to more relevant chats. Users can manage and delete these memories for greater control over their data. The Temporary Chat function enables quick, private conversations without appearing in chat history, similar to ChatGPT’s feature. These updates aim to enhance user experience while prioritizing privacy, akin to Google Search’s Incognito mode. Currently available for Gemini 2.5 Pro users in select regions, Google plans to expand these features to additional models and countries soon. Users will have the option to deactivate these memory features if desired. Additionally, the “Gemini Apps Activity” section has been rebranded as “Keep Activity,” with saved conversations used to improve services.
