Google Gemini Set for an Unexpected Design Refresh

Google Gemini has undergone significant design changes recently. Notably, the Android app’s prompt bar has transitioned from a rectangular to a sleeker, sheet-like design, providing more space for tools. However, an updated floating, pill-shaped prompt bar has also emerged, featuring a ‘+’ menu that consolidates many of Gemini’s core functionalities, such as Create videos and Deep Research. While the redesign offers a cleaner look, concerns about smaller touch targets have been raised. Additionally, new developments include updates to the floating Gemini overlay and the introduction of a potential feature called Gemini Labs, aimed at testing unreleased features similar to Google’s Search Labs program. The changes, spotted in the beta version 16.51.52, will likely roll out in stages, with users advised to anticipate the prompt bar redesign first. As these enhancements unfold, user feedback will be critical for further refinements.
