Google has launched its advanced Gemini AI assistant, enhancing Google Home and Nest devices from 2015 onwards by replacing Google Assistant. This upgrade offers more conversational and context-aware interactions across speakers, smart displays, cameras, and doorbells. Unlike its predecessor, Gemini understands context in follow-up questions, maintaining seamless conversations. For example, users can ask for troubleshooting tips for their dishwasher and continue the dialogue without restarting. Additionally, Gemini excels in interpreting vague requests and managing smart home routines through natural language commands.
The upgrade is available on various devices, including Google Home, Nest Hub, and all Nest cameras from 2015, featuring at the 2025 CEDIA Expo. An early access program launched in October 2025 allows users to enroll via the Google Home app. While the basic Gemini service is free, advanced features require a Google Home Premium subscription, raising privacy concerns as it collects user data. Overall, Gemini enhances home automation with improved engagement and content discovery.
