Google has enhanced its Gemini mobile app by introducing a new feature enabling users to play Audio Overviews directly within the app. Initially featured in NotebookLM, this functionality allows users to upload a file and generate a podcast-style audio conversation. Previously, Gemini app users had to visit the AI chatbot’s website to play their audio files. However, with the new inline media player, available globally to all Gemini users—even on the free tier—playing audio files has become seamless. This media player includes features like a seeking bar, play/pause buttons, rewind and skip options, and adjustable speech speed (0.5x to 2x). Users can also download files for local playback via third-party apps. The Audio Overviews feature allows for engaging discussions between AI hosts and has gained popularity since its launch. Google is rumored to be exploring similar features for AI Overviews in its Search functionality.
